[6] WORKING COLECTIVELY

At the time of Dada, Arp’s effacement in favor of a creation that pursued anonymity also motivated collective creation. The most remarkable collaboration, and one that includes a better understanding of Arp’s evolution, took place with Sophie Taeuber, manifesting itself in the work done by four hands in Zurich in the latter part of the 1910’s (duo-collages and container-sculptures), then in Meudon at the end of the 1930’s (Duo-drawings and wood sculptures). The importance of this creation principal is confirmed by its recurrence: three significant groups come to mind, diverse collaborations with Max Ernst, the exquisite corpses (1937) with Marcel Jean, Oscar Dominguez, Raul Hausmann and Sophie Taeuber-Arp, and the album de Grasse (1941-1943) with Magnelli, Sonia Delaunay and Sophie Taeuber-Arp.
